What Did You Do To Feel Supported By The Fabric?

To feel supported by the fabric, I ensured my body was aligned with those holding it. This made it easier for my body to react to the movement; my limbs were in sync with the fabric. It was a strange sensation - there was a lot of trust placed in those holding the fabric because I was unable to control my own body; the fabric ensured that I was off balance, which put me in a relatively vulnerable state. To feel supported by the fabric, it was critical to let loose, and allow the fabric to guide me.

What Did You Do To Help Support The Person In The Middle?

To support the person in the middle, I tried to align the fabric to the shape of the limbs - this was so that they would be the most comfortable, and could suitably interact with the fabric. If the fabric was not aligned with the person in the middle, the structure became stiff and uncomfortable. To ensure that this task was successful achieved, it was crucial to ensure that the body was able to move, and thus I ensured the fabric was constantly held in a suitable position, aligning with the body.

How Would You Describe The Movements Occurring During This Exercise?

At first, I found the movements quite stiff and uncomfortable. This was because we were attempting to unite the body with the fabric, so there was a lot of trial and error. This process felt quite tedious, especially when the body fell out of sync with the fabric. However, once we aligned the fabric with the body, it became quite automated; it was interesting to identify how the fabric had the ability to control the body. In my mind, it was as if the body was unconscious, performing involuntary movements.

When Did You Experience Something New?

When I was standing in the middle of the fabric, I experience something new. Whilst my partner was draping the fabric, I felt very restricted - it was as if I was being chased. The fabric was responding to each movement I made; strangely, it felt quite frustrating, especially when I felt as if the fabric ‘caught up’ with me.

What Did You Experience And How Did It Make You Feel?

It was strange allowing my partner to control my body, especially when I had no idea what the outcome was. That being said, I did not like that this was a continuous piece of art, that was not being recorded. I like to reflect visually, and it was strange not having the opportunity to do this.
